Impersonation Scam Awareness

1st Advantage has received reports from area Financial Institutions of an uptick in phone impersonation scams involving individuals posing as Credit Union personnel to obtain member account information.

Scam Characteristics:

  • Caller claims to be an “Investigation Officer” or representative from the “Compliance Department or Fraud Department.”
  • Call warns of alleged unauthorized or suspicious transactions on a debit card.
  • Scammer creates a sense of urgency and pressures you to remain on the phone.
  • Caller instructs you to confirm card details (number, expiration, CVV) or instruct on where to send card or place for pick-up.

1st Advantage will never call and request sensitive information, including Social Security numbers, account numbers, card details, one-time passcodes, or online banking credentials. If you receive an unexpected call claiming to be from the credit union, hang up and contact 1st Advantage directly using a trusted phone number: 757-877-2444.
