Volunteer Spotlight

At 1st Advantage, we are fortunate to have team members like Lisa M., who consistently goes above and beyond to make a positive impact in our community. Each year, she pours her time and energy into sewing the Surgery Bears that our colleagues lovingly stuff as part of our 1A Community Day initiative. These bears are then donated to the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter, bringing comfort to children facing surgery. Lisa’s dedication to this cause is a reflection of her genuine care for others and her passion for giving back. We had the chance to speak with her about what motivates her to make a difference every year. When asked what inspired her to start sewing the bears, Lisa said simply, “It’s all about the kids. Anything I can do that makes them feel a little better I am willing to do. I continue to do the bears because there is a need.” Her unwavering commitment to helping others stems from a deep sense of compassion, and that dedication shows in every bear she makes.

We asked her how it feels knowing that the bears she makes bring comfort to children during such a difficult time, and her response was heartfelt: “It’s the best feeling in the world.” When reflecting on her most rewarding experience as a volunteer, Lisa shared, “Just knowing that I am helping someone. I may not know them, but I know that it is a comfort to them, and that makes me happy.” Whether through the Surgery Bears or other volunteer projects, her selflessness shines through.
