In honor of this day, Michelle shares insights into her role at the credit union, who influenced her career, and the advice she would offer to women aspiring to step into leadership roles of their own.
What does International Women’s Day mean to you personally or professionally?
International Women’s Day is both a time of reflection and a call to action. It’s an opportunity to honor the women who paved the way for us, those who challenged norms, broke barriers, and created opportunities we benefit from today. At the same time, it’s a reminder that our work isn’t done. We have a responsibility to keep the momentum going so our daughters and granddaughters can continue to thrive. When women are empowered, and supported, there is truly no limit to what we can accomplish.
Can you share a bit about your role and what you enjoy most about the work you do?
As Chief Financial Officer, I’m blessed and privileged to help shape the future of our organization. My role includes ensuring strong financial stewardship, setting strategies that address both current and future needs of our members and colleagues, and supporting financial education for our employees and the communities we serve.
What I value most about leadership is the opportunity to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. I’m passionate about building people up, helping them recognize their potential, and challenging them to aim higher than they thought possible. Watching others grow and succeed is one of the most rewarding aspects of what I do.
Who has influenced or inspired you in your career?
Every leader I’ve worked with has shaped me in some way. The great ones showed me what effective, servant leadership looks like. The more challenging experiences taught me equally valuable lessons about what not to do.
If I had single out someone, it would be my Grandad. He valued integrity, always worked hard, and had a great sense of humor. Those values have shaped my life and continue to ground my leadership approach today.
What advice would you give to women who are early in their careers or aspiring to leadership roles?
I would start with my Grandad’s philosophy: act with integrity, work hard, and remember to laugh. Beyond that, don’t underestimate the impact you can have. Leadership isn’t about titles or recognition; it’s about service. It’s about making a difference and improving the lives of those around you. Commit to continuous growth in every area of your life, educationally, physically, mentally, and spiritually. Have the courage to step outside your comfort zone, and never forget that confidence comes from taking consistent, intentional action.
What’s one accomplishment or moment in your career that you’re especially proud of?
Early in my leadership journey, a colleague thanked me for encouraging her to pursue a new role. She didn’t feel ready or qualified, but with a lot of encouragement, she took the leap and absolutely excelled. That moment was powerful for me. It was the first time I truly realized that leadership carries not only influence but responsibility. We have the ability to change lives by believing in people before they fully believe in themselves. I’ve experienced similar moments since, and it never gets old. Watching someone grow because you helped them see their potential is one of the greatest accomplishments I could ever claim.
